NEST: New Engineering Student Talent

Starting college is a big leap. In the College of Engineering, we believe it’s also the perfect time to grow into the leader you’re meant to be. That’s why we have our N.E.S.T. Program — a dynamic leadership, mentorship, and soft skills development program tailored just for new engineering student talent.

Who Can Join?

The N.E.S.T. Program is application based and is open to all first-time, full-time freshmen or transfer and Texas academy seniors students entering in the fall semester in a college of engineering undergraduate program. Applications will be open until August 15, 2025.
This program is application based and in order to access the application you must be an admitted first-time, full-time freshmen, transfer or a Texas academy senior student entering in the fall semester in a college of engineering undergraduate program. You will log in with your single sign on to access the application. If you believe you fit this criteria, but are unable to access the application please contact engineering@lamar.edu.

N.E.S.T. Program Highlights:

  • Peer Mentorship
    Work alongside current College of Engineering Ambassadors at events, trainings, etc. who have been where you are and are ready to help guide the way.

  • Leadership Development 
    Learn how to lead with confidence, communicate effectively, resolve conflict, and work as part of a team.

  • Soft Skill Training
    Gain practical, real-world skills like public speaking, time management, professionalism, and emotional intelligence.

  • Networking & Community Building
    Connect with campus leaders, faculty, and fellow students in a supportive, inclusive environment.

  • Service & Engagement
    Participate in college of engineering events and campus activities that allow you to make an impact from day one.
